The Ministry of Health is probing a report that 19,992 radiology examinations in Malaysia face the risk of patients’ information exposure. The ministry has held a special meeting with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the National Cyber Security Agency to identify the cause of the exposures. The investigation focuses on cyber threats affecting health facilities, including private hospitals and medical centres at higher institutions of learning. Immediate measures include mapping exposure risks at all health facilities, reviewing exposure risks at hospitals using Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and upgrading the security of applications and IT infrastructures.
