Environment Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou stated that greenhouse gas concentrations in Cyprus have hit record highs, with electricity generation and transport identified as the main emission sectors. Despite a recent 5.2% reduction in emissions reported by Eurostat in February 2026, the continuing trend poses serious environmental consequences. The commissioner emphasized the need for sustained efforts to shift toward sustainable energy and development models, warning against complacency.
