Nationwide Dengue Prevention Campaign Launched in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has launched a nationwide dengue prevention and control campaign amid rising cases in early 2026, with the Western Province reporting more than half of nearly 9,500 cases.
Health officials in Sri Lanka have warned of an expected increase in dengue cases with the onset of the Southwest Monsoon and have launched a nationwide dengue prevention and control campaign. The National Dengue Control Unit reports that nearly 9,500 dengue cases have already been recorded across the country this year, with the Western Province accounting for more than half of those cases. The campaign focuses on intensified surveillance, community education, and mosquito control measures in high‑risk areas. Health authorities have urged residents to eliminate stagnant water and seek early medical care for symptoms such as high fever and body pain to prevent severe complications and reduce transmission.
