Singapore ups security after regional Middle East war tensions

Singapore has tightened border and checkpoint security due to heightened Middle East hostilities, affecting Johor–Singapore crossings and regional trade flows.

Singapore has introduced stricter security checks at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints in response to the ongoing Middle East conflict, leading to longer queues and longer commute times for daily cross‑border workers between Johor and Singapore. The tightened measures, which began in late February 2026, apply to all vehicles and pedestrians, including commercial trucks and motorcycles, as part of Singapore’s risk‑mitigation posture amid regional instability. The move also reflects broader concerns over how prolonged Middle East escalations may affect energy markets, shipping through the Strait of Malacca, and Singapore’s role as a regional trade and logistics hub.
