Qatar Discharges 128 Million Gallons of Rainwater from March Storm

Qatar Authorities discharged over 128 million gallons of stormwater in 68 hours after recent heavy rains, minimizing flood impacts and protecting urban infrastructure.

The Ministry of Municipality announced the controlled discharge of more than 128 million gallons of rainwater over 68 continuous hours of operation following intense rainfall between March 25 and 28, 2026. The Joint Rainfall Emergency Committee coordinated the effort to manage overflow and prevent localized flooding across multiple regions. Drainage networks and pumping stations were deployed to channel excess water safely into designated outlets, preserving public safety and reducing urban damage. The operation highlights Qatar’s expanding water‑management infrastructure in response to increasingly variable weather patterns. Government officials noted that rapid monitoring and response mechanisms helped maintain essential services and minimized disruption during the storm period.
