Refresher training on bacteriology strengthens AMR surveillance in Nepal

A refresher training on bacteriology for Vibrio cholerae has been conducted in Bagmati province to strengthen antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Nepal.

In March 2026, the World Health Organization Nepal organized a refresher training on bacteriology for strengthened antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in Bagmati province. The training focused on Vibrio cholerae laboratory procedures to enhance detection, reporting, and interpretation of cholera cases. Participants included laboratory staff and epidemiologists from provincial and district health facilities. The aim was to standardize culture, isolation, and susceptibility testing methods to improve early detection of drug‑resistant pathogens and support timely outbreak response. The initiative is part of Nepal’s broader AMR containment strategy coordinated with the National Public Health Laboratory and the Ministry of Health and Population.
