World Bank revises Myanmar's 2025/26 growth forecast upward
The World Bank has updated its Myanmar growth forecast for FY2025/26 to a 2.0 percent contraction, an improvement from its earlier 2.5 percent estimate, emphasizing earthquake and conflict impacts.
The World Bank has revised its economic outlook for Myanmar in its latest Myanmar Economic Monitor, projecting that real GDP will contract by 2.0 percent in the fiscal year ending March 2026, up from a previous forecast of –2.5 percent. The report attributes the downgrade to the compounding effects of the March 2025 earthquake and ongoing conflict, which continue to disrupt production and trade. Despite the contraction, the Bank notes moderate signs of recovery, with a rebound of about 3.0 percent projected for FY2026/27 driven largely by reconstruction activity and targeted assistance.
