The slowdown is attributed to external shocks from the West Asia crisis and a surge in global crude oil prices, which have increased domestic input costs and strained supply chains. High-frequency indicators such as e-way bill generation and PMI data showed a sequential loss of momentum, with the HSBC Composite PMI falling to 56.5 in March from 58.9 in February, the slowest expansion since October 2022. The Manufacturing PMI dropped to 53.8, the lowest in nearly 4.5 years, while the Services PMI eased to 57.2, the slowest growth since January 2025. Despite this moderation, year-on-year indicators remain positive, reflecting India's underlying resilience supported by strong domestic demand and sustained public capital expenditure.
