Beijing announces new smog warning measures

Beijing officials have unveiled upgraded air pollution alerts to better protect residents during severe smog episodes.

Beijing authorities have introduced updated smog warning criteria and stricter emergency response protocols aimed at reducing health impacts during hazardous air quality events. Under the new measures, industrial emissions curbs, construction activity limitations and vehicle restrictions will be triggered earlier and applied more comprehensively during peak pollution days. City officials say the revisions follow recent episodes of dense smog and are intended to align with national climate and air‑quality targets.
