Nicaragua Slams Costa Rica's "Colonialist" Stance in SICA Dispute

Nicaragua accuses Costa Rica of a 'colonialist' posture in the Central American Integration System, escalating regional tensions.

Nicaragua's Foreign Minister Valdrack Jaentschke has issued a formal letter branding Costa Rica with a 'colonialist and usurping attitude' within the SICA framework, alleging that Costa Rica issued an aggressive communication containing orders and threats that undermine Nicaragua's sovereignty. The dispute centers on a reportedly unusual communication from Costa Rican authorities, which Jaentschke claims overstepped Costa Rica's rotating SICA presidency and posed a direct challenge to Nicaragua's democratic and institutional order. Nicaragua's response invokes national hero Augusto Sandino, warning Costa Rica it 'would be defeated again' if it persists, signaling a serious deterioration in bilateral relations that could disrupt SICA operations and deepen Central American fragmentation.
