Pollution and climate change threaten PNG marine food sources

Pollution and climate change impacts are endangering marine food sources and coastal communities in Papua New Guinea.

Environmental groups in Papua New Guinea warn that pollution from agricultural runoff, urban waste, and shipping activities, combined with climate change effects such as ocean warming and acidification, are degrading marine habitats and threatening the safety and availability of fish and other seafood on which coastal communities depend. These changes could increase food insecurity and public health risks if not mitigated.
