Lenacapavir rollout shows progress in HIV prevention efforts in Eswatini

Eswatini has begun administering lenacapavir, a new injectable HIV prevention drug, to help curb the spread of HIV.

Eswatini has joined a small group of countries rolling out lenacapavir, a long‑acting injectable HIV prevention drug, which has already been administered to about 2,000 people since December 2025. This initiative forms part of the country’s broader strategy to reduce HIV transmission in a population with one of the highest HIV prevalence rates globally. The rollout is being monitored as a public‑health intervention that could significantly impact new HIV infections if uptake and adherence remain high.
