Latvian police detain 21 in major IT procurement fraud

Latvian State Police detain 21 people, including public officials, in a €1.5 million fraud probe over rigged information technology tenders.

Latvian State Police have detained 21 individuals, including public officials, in a wide‑ranging criminal probe into alleged fraud in state IT procurement contracts worth around €1.5 million. The investigation, launched and coordinated by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), focuses on rigged tenders and misappropriated public funds. Two of the suspects, including a senior official, have been placed in pre‑trial custody. Authorities conducted coordinated searches and say the group used complex schemes to skew bids and steer contracts to favored companies. Prosecutors warn the case may lead to additional charges and further arrests as auditors trace the full flow of funds.
