Armed group robbery in Mazar‑e‑Sharif

An armed criminal group raided a jewelry shop in Balkh province’s capital, stealing high‑value items and briefly clashing with local police.

Unidentified armed men stormed a jewelry shop in Mazar‑e‑Sharif late on March 29, 2026, forcing employees to open safes and taking several packages of gold and precious stones before fleeing in a motorcycle convoy. Police responded within minutes, chasing the suspects and exchanging fire in a side street, though no casualties were reported. Local authorities confirmed the stolen goods were insured and promised an investigation into possible involvement of organized crime networks operating in the region.
