Pakistan and Afghanistan exchange fresh fire after Eid ceasefire ends

After the temporary Eid truce expired, Pakistan and Afghan forces exchanged artillery and drone fire along their border, causing civilian casualties and deepening regional tensions.

Following the expiration of a temporary Eid ceasefire, Pakistani forces reportedly shelled eastern Afghanistan, killing at least two civilians and injuring eight in Kunar province. Afghan border units said they returned fire, claiming to have destroyed three Pakistani border posts, though these claims remain unverified. Pakistan accused Afghan forces of initiating the clashes, while Kabul maintained that it was responding to cross‑border attacks. The renewed exchanges have heightened fears of wider escalation between the two neighbors, already locked in a tense standoff over militants and border sovereignty. International observers warn the flare‑up could destabilize the wider region and undermine fragile humanitarian conditions in border areas.
