Woman (20s) critically injured in armed group assault on Tipperary road

A woman in her 20s was critically injured in Co Tipperary after being attacked by a group believed to be armed on the R494 at Birdhill on 21 March 2026.

A woman in her 20s is in a critical condition following a serious assault on the R494 near Birdhill, Co Tipperary, shortly before 5.30pm on Saturday, 21 March 2026. Gardaí believe she was attacked by a group armed with weapons, possibly after being dragged from a vehicle that may have been rammed on the road. The incident led to the closure of the R494 while forensic teams examined the scene. The victim was airlifted first to University Hospital Limerick and later transferred to Cork University Hospital. Gardaí are seeking dashcam footage and details of two vehicles, a grey Ford Transit van and a blue Volkswagen Touran, reportedly travelling in convoy in the area around the time of the attack.
