El Salvador holds national pandemic simulation exercise

El Salvador completed a two‑day national simulation exercise for respiratory virus pandemics with health and emergency agencies, testing coordination and response plans.

El Salvador’s Ministry of Health, with support from PAHO/WHO, conducted a national simulation exercise (SimEx) on March 11–12, 2026 to prepare for future respiratory‑virus pandemics. The drill brought together 44 representatives from health institutions, civil protection, agriculture, environment, social security, and emergency medical services, as well as regional partners. Participants evaluated the updated National Preparedness and Response Plan for pandemic‑prone respiratory viruses, identifying gaps in coordination, decision‑making, and surge capacity. The exercise aims to strengthen early detection, patient management, and intersectoral response ahead of future large‑scale outbreaks.
