Large Cocaine Seizure in Barahona Operation

Dominican forces intercepted a major cocaine shipment off Barahona in a high‑stakes maritime chase, arresting six suspects and recovering hundreds of drug packages.

Dominican authorities intercepted a substantial shipment of suspected cocaine off the southwestern coast near Barahona in mid‑March 2026. Acting on intelligence of a “go‑fast” boat approaching from South America, the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) coordinated with the Dominican Navy, Air Force, and Army to launch an air‑sea‑land operation. After an intense pursuit, the suspects jettisoned cargo and grounded their 23‑foot vessel on San Rafael Beach. Officers retrieved 564 packages of suspected cocaine and detained six men. The seizure is part of a broader crackdown credited with a more than 50 percent year‑on‑year increase in drug interceptions during the first quarter of 2026.
