Chile Central Bank Holds Interest Rate at 4.5% in March 2026

The Central Bank of Chile decided to maintain its monetary policy interest rate at 4.5% in March 2026, citing subdued inflation and steady economic growth.

At its March 2026 Monetary Policy Meeting, the Central Bank of Chile's Board unanimously decided to keep the monetary policy interest rate at 4.5%. The decision followed a 2.5% growth rate for 2025 and slightly lower-than-expected January economic activity, dampened by supply-side factors in mining and agribusiness. Inflation has continued to decline, with headline CPI at 2.4% year-on-year and core inflation at 3.3%, both close to the bank's 3% target. The Board noted that short-term inflation expectations have risen due to higher international fuel prices and peso depreciation, but two-year expectations remain near 3%. Given elevated uncertainty, the bank emphasized that future rate moves will be assessed flexibly meeting by meeting to ensure the two-year inflation target is met.
