Bahamas debuts new coral restoration garden in New Providence

The Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation launched a 2026 coral restoration project at the BREEF Sir Nicholas Nuttall Coral Reef Sculpture Garden off Clifton Heritage National Park, outplant

The Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation (BREEF) has initiated its 2026 coral restoration campaign at the BREEF Sir Nicholas Nuttall Coral Reef Sculpture Garden and coral nursery west of Clifton Heritage National Park on New Providence. Teams conducted strategic dives to outplant 154 fragments of native coral species, selecting the cooler winter months to minimize stress and maximize survival. The restored patches aim to improve reef structure, boost habitat complexity, and strengthen long‑term resilience of the Southwest New Providence Marine Managed Area. BREEF highlighted that the project also trains local youth in marine conservation, aligning reef recovery with expansion of the nation’s Blue Economy.
