Police arrest man in Honiara linked to major drug trafficking network

Solomon Islands police in Honiara have apprehended a key suspect linked to a large‑scale methamphetamine smuggling operation thought to involve regional transit routes.

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force officers in Honiara have arrested a man described as a central figure in a major drug‑trafficking network that allegedly imported and distributed methamphetamine across the capital and several outer provinces. The operation reportedly leveraged maritime routes and corrupt intermediaries at ports to move consignments from neighboring countries. Authorities seized multiple kilograms of processed methamphetamine and cash during raids on several properties and a commercial premises in the city. Police say the network used coded communications and front businesses to conceal activity and are widening investigations to identify additional suspects. The case has heightened concerns about the penetration of organized criminal networks into the country’s transport and logistics sectors.
