Armed robbery ambush on businessman near Lilayi

An aggravated robbery near Lilayi turn‑off left a Chirundu businessman seriously injured after armed assailants ambushed his vehicle and opened fire.

Chirundu businessman Business Mungundu and his colleague Aubrey Siazambo were ambushed by four armed robbers at the Lilayi turn‑off around 16:20 hrs while traveling from Lusaka toward Kafue. The suspects, trailing them in a grey Mark X with suspected fake registration BBA 7522, opened fire at close range, seriously injuring both victims before fleeing along Lilayi Road with an undisclosed sum of money and a pistol. The pair were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital in critical condition, and police have condemned the violent aggravated robbery, describing it as part of a broader crackdown on armed criminal networks operating along major highways.
