Uganda records 8.5% economic growth in second quarter 2025/26

Uganda's economy grew 8.5% in the second quarter of FY 2025/26, up from 5.4% a year earlier, driven by robust demand and ICT, construction, and machinery investments.

Government officials announced on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, that Uganda's economy grew by 8.5% in the second quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, compared with 5.4% in the same period last year. The Minister of State for General Duties at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, presented the figures to Parliament’s Committee on Finance, highlighting effective macroeconomic management and strong aggregate demand. Key growth sectors included ICT, construction, and machinery, which are seen as critical for long-term structural transformation. Inflation moderated to 2.9% in February 2026, down from 3.2% in January, benefiting from coordinated fiscal and monetary policy and improved food supply conditions.
