Health summit focuses on maternal hypertension and child survival

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health hosts a health summit to improve detection of maternal hypertension and strengthen child survival interventions nationwide.

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health convened a national health summit in early March 2026 to address key challenges in maternal and child health. The summit highlighted efforts to scale up use of the CRADLE device for better detection and management of maternal hypertension, as well as initiatives to improve facility readiness for pediatric oxygen therapy in pneumonia care. Participants also discussed the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) findings and the Child Survival Action Plan, along with progress under the Sierra Leone Integrated Routine Immunisation project. The event brought together government officials, health partners, and technical experts to align strategies under the broader National Health Sector Strategic Plan 2026–2030, aiming to strengthen primary care and reduce maternal and child mortality.
