IMF completes 5th and 6th reviews of Seychelles’ economic programmes

IMF staff concludes successful 5th and 6th reviews of Seychelles’ Extended Fund Facility and Resilience and Sustainability Facility, endorsing strong 2025 growth and sound fiscal performance.

The International Monetary Fund has completed the 5th and 6th reviews of Seychelles’ economic programmes under the Extended Fund Facility and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, reaffirming the country’s robust macroeconomic performance. The IMF estimates real GDP growth at 5.1 percent for 2025, driven by record tourist arrivals and strong tourism earnings. Headline inflation remained negative, near zero, supported by low food and fuel prices and a stable rupee against the dollar. The government achieved a primary fiscal surplus of 2.5 percent of GDP, helping to reduce public and publicly guaranteed debt to 53.6 percent of GDP. The improved external position has narrowed the current account deficit to about 6.5 percent of GDP and boosted central bank foreign exchange reserves to more than four months of import cover, enhancing resilience against external shocks.
