US Secret Service shuts down telecom threat against UN

The US Secret Service dismantled a telecommunications network capable of disrupting cellular services in New York City.

The United States Secret Service (USSS) dismantled a telecommunications network threatening to disrupt cellular services in New York City during the 80th anniversary of the UN General Assembly. The operation uncovered more than 300 SIM servers and 100,000 SIM cards across the tri‑state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut). The network had the capacity to disable cell phone towers and conduct denial‑of‑service attacks, potentially blocking emergency communications. The equipment was tied to a well‑organized, well‑funded scheme involving nation‑state actors and known criminal groups, prompting authorities to seize the gear and dismantle the threat.
