Senegal National Strike Affecting Health Services

Nationwide strike by health unions in Senegal has led to partial closure of health centers and hospitals, disrupting routine care and non‑urgent services across the country.

On March 26, 2026, the Alliance of Independent Health Workers Unions in Senegal began a scheduled rolling strike at public health facilities, including hospitals and health centers, as part of an intensified action plan demanding improved working conditions and government negotiations. The strike, planned for March 26–27, has caused reduced staffing and limited access to consultations and non‑emergency procedures while emergency services are maintained. Health authorities and hospital directors are reporting delays and service constraints, particularly in Dakar and other major regions. The union has pledged to respect medical emergencies but warns of further disruptions if talks with the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene do not resume promptly.
