Authorities in São Tomé and Príncipe have launched a nationwide malaria surveillance and community testing campaign led by the Ministry of Health and supported by WHO.
São Tomé and Príncipe has initiated a new malaria surveillance and community testing campaign aimed at reinforcing early detection and response across all health districts. The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the World Health Organization, deployed rapid diagnostic testing teams and intensified vector control activities ahead of the rainy season. The campaign includes door‑to‑door screening, community education on prevention, and strengthened case reporting through the national health information system. Officials emphasized that sustained surveillance is critical to maintaining the country’s progress in malaria control and preventing outbreaks in vulnerable rural communities.
