IMF Reaches Staff-Level Agreement on Niger’s 2026 Review

IMF staff and Nigerien authorities agree on the eighth review of Niger’s Extended Credit Facility program, reinforcing support for the 2026 fiscal year.

IMF staff and Nigerien authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on the eighth review of Niger’s economic program supported by the Extended Credit Facility and the fourth review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility. Economic growth is projected to remain strong at around 6.7 percent in 2026 despite political, security, and climate challenges. The agreement reflects Niger’s continued implementation of reforms aimed at revenue mobilisation, fiscal discipline, and debt management while protecting social spending. The IMF notes that the 2026 fiscal deficit is expected to widen slightly to allow for climate‑related expenditures, cushioned by planned tax and financial reforms. The IMF Executive Board is expected to complete the review in March 2026, which will determine disbursement of additional financial support.
