First Chikungunya Fever Case Diagnosed in Armenia

Armenia's National Center for Disease Control confirmed the first case of Chikungunya fever in February 2026, imported from the Seychelles, causing fever and joint pain but no severe complications.

In February 2026, Armenia recorded its first case of Chikungunya fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease, in a patient who had been infected during a visit to the Seychelles. The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health reported that the individual's condition was stable and recovery is underway. Symptoms include high fever, severe joint and muscle pain, rash, and fatigue, with an incubation period of 2 to 12 days. Local health authorities emphasized that the disease does not spread from person to person and that no domestic transmission has been detected so far. They are monitoring the situation and reinforcing mosquito control and public awareness measures to prevent further spread.
