Namibia deploys soldiers to combat Etosha National Park fire

Namibia has deployed around 500 soldiers to assist rangers in fighting a wildfire that has scorched more than a third of Etosha National Park following extremely dry conditions.

A major wildfire in Etosha National Park, one of Namibia's best-known wildlife reserves, has burned through roughly 34% of the park, prompting the government to deploy approximately 500 soldiers to support rangers and firefighting efforts. The blaze ignited in late September under hot, dry conditions and strong winds, quickly spreading across parched vegetation.
