Mauritania Signs $1 Billion ITFC Trade Funding Deal

Mauritania finalized a $1 billion five‑year framework with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation to bolster trade finance, energy imports and SME support.

On 10 March 2026 Mauritania signed a $1 billion five‑year framework agreement with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) covering the period 2026–2030. The deal, signed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, by Mauritania’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Development and the ITFC’s CEO, aims to enhance trade capacity and economic development. ITFC will provide financing and technical assistance focused on energy imports, trade finance for local banks, and small and medium‑enterprise support. The agreement strengthens Mauritania’s access to external liquidity and builds on a cooperation history since 2008, which already supported energy imports and trade initiatives. This framework is expected to improve economic stability and expand private‑sector participation in key sectors.
