Cholera outbreak declared in central Malawi district
Malawi's health authorities have declared a cholera outbreak in Mzimba district in the country's north, with over 50 confirmed cases and 3 deaths reported.
The Ministry of Health has declared a cholera outbreak in Mzimba district after recording more than 50 confirmed cases and 3 deaths linked to the disease. The outbreak is believed to have originated from contaminated water sources in several rural communities. Health officials have launched an emergency response, including deployment of Rapid Response Teams, setting up of treatment centers and provision of clean water and sanitation supplies. The government has also initiated public awareness campaigns to educate communities on hygiene practices and symptoms of cholera to prevent further spread.
