Guinea plans Simandou wealth fund launch in 2026

Guinea announces a sovereign wealth fund backed by Simandou iron ore revenues to support infrastructure, education, and economic diversification starting in 2026.

Guinea intends to launch its first sovereign wealth fund in the second quarter of 2026, seeded with about US$1 billion from anticipated Simandou iron ore revenues. The fund aims to channel mining windfalls into priority sectors such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, and industry, while shielding the economy from commodity price swings. Simandou, one of the world’s largest untapped high‑grade iron ore deposits, is projected to add revenue equivalent to roughly 3.4 percent of GDP between 2030 and 2039, significantly boosting Guinea’s fiscal capacity and underpinning long‑term economic diversification plans.
