Warm, dry weather raises forest fire risk across Finland
Widespread forest and grass fires have broken out in southern and central Finland, with extremely high fire risk warnings in place.
Unusually warm and dry conditions have led to numerous forest and grass fires across southern and central Finland. The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued high to extremely high fire risk warnings for large parts of the country, including Southwest Finland, Uusimaa and Häme. Authorities have forbidden all open fires and have stepped up surveillance and firefighting preparedness. Emergency services report several separate blazes in recent days, with some requiring extensive resources to contain. The situation has also heightened concerns about smoke exposure and impacts on local ecosystems and air quality.
