Cartel-Related Violence and Road Blockades in Jalisco and Surrounding States

Ongoing cartel retaliation following the death of CJNG leader El Mencho has led to violent clashes and road blockades in Jalisco and neighboring states.

Following the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes (El Mencho), leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, during a military operation in Tapalpa on February 22, 2026, cartel-linked groups have responded with coordinated attacks across multiple states. These include armed clashes with security forces, arson attacks on vehicles and businesses, and narco blockades using burning trucks and vehicles on key highways. The violence has resulted in numerous casualties among security forces and civilians, with schools and commercial activities disrupted in affected areas. Road blockades have been reported in states including Jalisco, Michoacán, Colima, Guanajuato, and Nayarit, affecting transportation and trade routes.
