El Salvador activates Red Alert over surge in dengue cases
El Salvador has declared a nationwide Red Alert due to an early and steep rise in dengue cases, with 139 confirmed cases reported including 4 critical cases.
The Ministry of Health and Salvadoran Civil Protection have declared a countrywide Red Alert as dengue cases surge earlier than normal in El Salvador. Since late June, 139 confirmed cases have been reported, including 4 at critical level. All cases so far have involved youth under 19 years of age, with 60% in children under nine. Authorities are implementing a national fumigation plan targeting the 30 districts with the highest rates, which are concentrated in the metropolitan area of San Salvador and other parts of the interior.
