Norovirus surge hits South Korea's children

South Korea reports sharp rise in norovirus infections, especially among infants and toddlers, prompting hygiene alerts from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

South Korea is experiencing a surge in norovirus infections, with cases reaching the highest level in five years as of early 2026. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) notes that 548 patients were recorded in just two weeks, and children aged 0–6 account for nearly 40 percent of these cases. The KDCA is urging stricter hygiene practices in daycare centers, kids cafes, and related facilities to curb transmission. Public health officials warn that norovirus can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea, especially dangerous for young children, and are emphasizing handwashing, disinfection of surfaces, and isolation of symptomatic individuals.
