Myanmar marks World Tuberculosis Day 2026

Myanmar commemorates World Tuberculosis Day 2026 at the Ministry of Health in Naypyitaw, highlighting high TB burden and expanded detection and treatment efforts nationwide.

Myanmar marked World Tuberculosis Day 2026 on March 25 at the Ministry of Health in Naypyitaw, emphasising that the country remains among the top 30 globally with the highest TB, TB/HIV co-infection, and drug-resistant TB burdens. Deputy Minister for Health Aye Tun noted that Myanmar has the second‑highest incidence of new TB cases in the WHO South‑East Asia region. To combat this, national strategic plans are being implemented with partner organisations using the 'Double X Strategy' for diagnosis and treatment. The Ministry has expanded stool sample testing for TB, provides preventive treatment for children under eight, and employs AI‑assisted chest X‑rays and portable TB testing devices. An integrated TB e‑surveillance system is also being rolled out to manage control activities in real time.
