Large Criminal Activity

Cybercrime surge targets Mongolian financial institutions

A coordinated wave of cyberattacks has hit multiple banks and payment platforms in Ulaanbaatar, disrupting transactions and exposing customer data.

Over the past 24 hours, Mongolian authorities have reported a large‑scale cybercrime operation targeting several major financial institutions in Ulaanbaatar. Hackers allegedly used phishing and malware‑driven attacks to infiltrate banking systems, enabling unauthorized fund transfers and data theft. The Central Bank and police have activated emergency response protocols, temporarily suspending certain online services to contain the breach. Initial investigations suggest foreign‑linked cybercriminal networks may be involved, exploiting outdated digital infrastructure and weak authentication controls. The government has warned the public to monitor accounts and avoid suspicious links while investigations continue.
