India's Q3 FY26 GDP growth accelerates to 7.8% under new series

India’s real GDP expanded by 7.8% in the third quarter of FY26, supported by strong manufacturing and resilient consumption, exceeding market expectations and reflecting a stable expansion path.

India’s real GDP grew by 7.82% in the third quarter of FY26 (December quarter) under the new 2022–23 base year series, slightly ahead of market expectations of about 7.4%. The growth was driven by robust manufacturing output, which expanded over 13%, and steady private consumption, indicating resilient household demand despite higher oil prices and global uncertainty. The secondary sector, including manufacturing, construction, and utilities, remained the key growth engine, though construction moderated to 6.6%. Nominal GDP growth stood at 8.93%, highlighting a stable expansion trend over the past 12 quarters, with average growth around 7.3%. The ministry of statistics and programme implementation’s revised data underscore the economy’s capacity to maintain momentum amid global volatility.
