Brazil to tackle 14 diseases that affect socially vulnerable people
Brazil launches a program targeting 14 socially determined diseases affecting vulnerable populations.
The Brazilian government has launched the Brasil Saudável ('Healthy Brazil') program to eliminate or mitigate 14 diseases that most intensely affect socially vulnerable people. These diseases include malaria, Chagas disease, schistosomiasis, syphilis, hepatitis B, and HIV, among others. The initiative aims to address health inequalities and social determinants of disease, which are responsible for more than 59,000 deaths in Brazil from 2017 to 2021.
