Cyprus Launches National Ambulance Authority Emergency Overhaul
Cyprus introduces a new National Ambulance Authority to modernize 112 emergency response and pre-hospital care nationwide, effective 2026.
Cyprus has moved to establish a National Ambulance Authority that will oversee ambulance operations, emergency call coordination, and poison control, replacing fragmented systems and unifying pre-hospital emergency response. The new authority aims to shorten response times, reduce preventable deaths, and improve overall emergency medical outcomes across the island. State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) will continue providing emergency services during a transition period that runs until full operational autonomy or the end of 2026, whichever comes first. The overhaul is expected to standardize training, equipment, and protocols for all emergency medical crews and better integrate Cyprus’s emergency response with EU health frameworks.
