Cambodia cybercrime crackdown targets scam centers
Cambodian authorities have launched a major crackdown on cybercrime operations, arresting over 1,000 suspects linked to scam centers across multiple provinces.
In a nationwide operation, Cambodian police have detained more than 1,000 individuals suspected of involvement in cybercrime and scam center activities. The crackdown, ordered by Prime Minister Hun Manet, has targeted organized online fraud syndicates in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Poipet and other regions known for online scam operations. Authorities have seized computers, mobile phones and other equipment used in elaborate cyber fraud schemes directed at international victims. The authorities report that the operation has disrupted extensive networks of foreign and local criminals engaged in large‑scale cyber fraud and human trafficking linked to scam compounds.
