Health authorities in Cambodia have confirmed a new human H5N1 avian influenza infection in a 45‑year‑old woman from Ropai Village in Preah Netr Preah District, Banteay Meanchey Province, close to the Thailand border. Laboratory testing carried out by Cambodia’s National Institute of Public Health confirmed the infection over the weekend. Rapid public‑health teams deployed to the village to collect environmental samples and identify individuals with direct or indirect contact with the patient. Close contacts are being monitored and given the antiviral drug Tamiflu as preventive treatment. This marks Cambodia’s second human H5N1 case recorded in 2026, continuing a pattern of sporadic poultry‑linked infections in recent years.
