Broadband, mobile services hit in Solomons due to cable damage
Damage to Solomon Islands’ submarine internet cable has disrupted broadband and mobile services in several provincial centres.
The Solomon Islands submarine internet cable has been damaged by a foreign flagged vessel dropping its anchor on it, affecting broadband, mobile and landline services in Auki on Malaita, Noro in Western Province and Taro in Choiseul Province. The cable company is dispatching a repair vessel from Asia, with full repairs expected to take three to five weeks. Solomon Islands Telekom is attempting to boost satellite and microwave links to provide some connectivity, but services remain patchy and slow.
